Lost Your Luggage in Pakistan? Here's Exactly What to Do

Your bag didn't arrive? Don't panic. This step-by-step guide walks you through filing a claim at Pakistani airports, airline policies, and how to prevent it from happening again.

Step 1 — Report at the Baggage Claim Counter Immediately

The moment you realize your bag isn't on the belt, do not leave the baggage claim area. Go directly to the airline's baggage services desk — every major Pakistani airport has one. You need to file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the terminal. Without this, most airlines will refuse your compensation claim later.

At Allama Iqbal International Airport (Lahore), the counters are located on the arrivals level, left of the main belt area. At Jinnah International Airport (Karachi), the baggage services office is behind the carousels. At the New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA), it's at the far end of the arrivals hall.

Step 2 — What Information You'll Need

  • Your boarding pass (both the departure and arrival stubs)
  • Baggage claim tag — the sticker attached to your boarding pass at check-in
  • A description of your bag: color, brand, size, any distinctive features
  • Your contact details including local phone number
  • Hotel or home address where your bag should be delivered if found

Step 3 — Airline Policies in Pakistan

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)

PIA gives you 7 days to report delayed baggage and up to 21 days to report lost baggage. Call their helpline at 111-786-786. PIA's compensation for lost bags follows international conventions (Montreal Convention) — roughly PKR 60,000–80,000 per passenger for international flights, less for domestic.

AirSial & Serene Air

These newer carriers follow stricter reporting windows — often just 48 hours for delayed baggage claims. Call immediately after filing your PIR. Keep a screenshot of every communication.

Step 4 — Track Your Bag Online

Most international airlines have online bag trackers. PIA uses WorldTracer (the global baggage tracing system). You'll receive a reference number on your PIR — enter it at worldtracer.aero to track your bag's status. Update this daily and follow up by phone if there's no movement after 48 hours.

Step 5 — What If Your Bag Is Truly Lost?

After 21 days, airlines typically declare a bag officially lost. At that point, you can file a formal compensation claim. Document everything — keep receipts for any emergency purchases you made (clothing, toiletries) because most airlines will reimburse reasonable expenses for delayed bags.

💡 The real fix: prevent this from happening

A QR-coded luggage tag from Nishaaan means anyone who finds your bag can instantly connect with you — even if all your bag tags fall off. The finder scans the QR, enters their name and number, and you get notified. No personal information is shared. See how our smart luggage tags work.
