How to File an FIR for a Stolen Vehicle in Pakistan — Step-by-Step
Your vehicle was stolen. Here's the exact step-by-step process for filing an FIR in Pakistan — which police station, what documents, what to say, and follow-up steps.
Before Going to the Police Station
Gather the following documents before you go. You will need these at the station:
- Original CNIC (Pakistani national ID card)
- Vehicle Registration Book (Log Book / RC) — if you have a copy, bring it. The original may be in the vehicle.
- Proof of insurance if applicable
- A clear description of the vehicle: make, model, year, color, registration number, engine/chassis number
- Any photos of the vehicle (from your phone gallery)
- Approximate time and location where the vehicle was last seen
Step 1 — Go to the Nearest Police Station
You must file the FIR at the police station that has jurisdiction over the area where the theft occurred. If you're not sure, go to any nearby station — they'll direct you to the correct one. Call 15 (Police helpline) if you're unsure.
Go in person. Do not try to file by phone — FIRs in Pakistan require an in-person visit.
Step 2 — Request to File an FIR
At the station, tell the duty officer you want to file an FIR for vehicle theft. Request specifically for a "Vehicle Theft FIR" — in Urdu: "Gaari chori ki FIR darj karwani hai." You should not be turned away or redirected for this — it's your legal right to file an FIR.
If the officer is dismissive or asks you to come back later, remain firm and calm. You can ask to speak to the SHO (Station House Officer) if there's difficulty.
Step 3 — Provide Your Statement
The officer will record your statement. Be clear and factual: what vehicle, what registration number, when you last saw it, where it was parked, when you discovered it missing. Don't guess — if you don't know something, say so.
Step 4 — Receive Your FIR Copy
Once registered, you'll receive a copy of the FIR with a reference number. This is critical — keep it safe. You'll need it for:
- Insurance claim
- Applying for duplicate documents
- Follow-up with police
- Any future legal proceedings
Step 5 — Follow Up
File a complaint with Motorway Police (130) if you think the vehicle may have been transported out of the city. Also alert Punjab Safe Cities Authority / Sindh Safe City cameras if applicable — many stolen vehicles are caught on CCTV.
Prevent Future Theft
After resolution, invest in a GPS tracker and a Nishaaan QR vehicle tag. If your vehicle is found by police or a citizen, they can instantly identify and contact you via the QR tag — speeding up recovery significantly. Order here.
