Pakistan to Saudi Arabia Travel Guide — Hajj, Umrah & Work Visa Luggage Tips

Saudi Arabia is Pakistan's second most traveled destination. This complete guide covers Jeddah and Madinah airports, Hajj terminal, luggage limits, and lost baggage claims.

Pakistan-Saudi Arabia: The World's Largest Pilgrim-Worker Travel Corridor

Saudi Arabia is home to an estimated 2.5–3 million Pakistani workers — the largest Pakistani community outside Pakistan itself. Additionally, 150,000–200,000 Pakistanis perform Hajj annually, and hundreds of thousands perform Umrah throughout the year. The Pakistan-Saudi travel corridor is unique because it serves two completely different traveler profiles simultaneously: workers and pilgrims.

Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA)

New KAIA Terminal — What Pakistani Travelers Need to Know

KAIA's new North Terminal (completed 2018) replaced the old terminals. The Hajj Terminal remains a separate facility used only during the Hajj season (Dhul Hijjah). The new terminal is far more organized than the old airport — immigration queues are faster, baggage claim areas are better labeled. However, Pakistani passengers should note: KAIA immigration for non-resident visas can take 2–4 hours during peak periods (Ramazan Umrah season, summer).

Madinah Airport (MED)

Many Umrah packages now fly directly into Madinah — shorter road journey to Masjid al-Nabawi. Madinah Airport is smaller and less congested than KAIA. Baggage handling at MED is generally faster. However, MED has fewer direct flights from Pakistan — most are on PIA, Saudi Airlines, and Flynas.

Hajj Terminal — A Guide for Pakistani Hajj Groups

The Hajj Terminal at KAIA is a marvel — a Teflon-coated fabric tent structure that covers 2.5 square km. It's used exclusively during Hajj season. For Pakistani Hajj pilgrims:

  • Group leader is responsible for all group luggage — designate this person clearly before departure
  • Tag EVERY bag in the group with individual Nishaaan QR tags — even if the group uses matching bags
  • In the Hajj Terminal, bags from multiple countries are mixed — Pakistani bags often look identical to Indian and Bangladeshi bags
  • Keep your Hajj tracking wristband (issued by Saudi Ministry of Hajj) separate from luggage
  • Lost baggage at Hajj Terminal: contact your muallim (Hajj guide) first — they have dedicated protocols

Zamzam Water Transport Rules

Zamzam water is one of the most important things Pakistani Hajj and Umrah pilgrims bring home. Saudi authorities allow each returning pilgrim to bring up to 5 liters in checked baggage only (not cabin). The water is provided in official Zamzam Authority containers at the airport. Note: Zamzam containers are heavy — 5 liters = 5 kg. Factor this into your baggage weight calculation. Many pilgrims buy extra baggage for the return flight specifically for Zamzam.
