Walima & Post-Wedding — Don't Lose Your Gifts, Outfits & Memories

The Post-Wedding Chaos Window

The period immediately after walima is when the most items get permanently lost. Everyone is exhausted after 3–5 days of events. The couple is leaving for their honeymoon or new home. Family members are dispersing across different cities. In this window, significant items get left at venues, lost in transit, or mislabeled.

Gift Inventory — Do This Immediately

Do not wait until the couple returns from their honeymoon to inventory gifts. Do it the day after walima:

• Count all physical gifts before loading into cars
• Photograph every gift and its packaging before opening
• For gifts in shopping bags, check inside each bag before discarding
• Write a list with approximate descriptions — color, size, apparent item
• Assign a family member specifically to gift management during transport

Outfit Care After the Wedding

Expensive wedding outfits (lehnga, sherwani, heavily embroidered suits) often get damaged or lost in post-wedding packing. A single PKR 150,000 lehnga requires careful handling:

• Hang outfits immediately after the event — don't ball them into a bag
• Use dedicated garment bags — not regular shopping bags
• Nishaaan QR tag on each garment bag — if bags get mixed between bride's family and groom's family, identification is immediate
• Dry clean within 2 weeks for any stains — stains set permanently if left

Venue Left-Behind Items

Items commonly left at wedding venues in Pakistan:

• Decorative items rented or owned — centerpieces, fairy lights, backdrop props
• Personal items — shawls, dupattas left on chairs, glasses, phones
• Children's belongings — small bags, toys, shoes
• Extra food containers brought from home that weren't used

Before leaving the venue: do a complete room/hall walkthrough. Designate someone specifically for venue checkout. Get the venue manager's contact for next-day follow-up if something is discovered missing.
