Pakistan Travel Calendar 2026 — Best Time to Visit Every Destination

Month-by-month travel calendar for Pakistan. Best time for Hunza, Murree, Karachi, skiing, beaches, and cherry blossoms. When to go, what to pack, and luggage safety by season.

January–February — Winter Peak for the North

Northern Pakistan in winter is spectacular but requires preparation. Key destinations:

  • Malam Jabba Ski Resort (Swat): Pakistan's best skiing destination. Open January–March. Basic ski rental available. Weekends get crowded.
  • Naltar Valley (Gilgit): Less crowded than Malam Jabba, beautiful snow-covered pine forests. Accessible from Gilgit city.
  • Islamabad and Lahore: Pleasant winter weather. Good for city tourism.
  • Balochistan: Too cold for general tourism. Avoid northern Balochistan routes in winter.

What to pack: Heavy warm clothing, waterproof boots, hand warmers, emergency supplies. Luggage safety: Mountain roads have no recovery services — QR tag every bag in case of vehicle accident.

March–April — Spring Awakening

  • Islamabad: Cherry blossoms in Fatima Jinnah Park and F-9 Park (usually mid-March). Worth the trip specifically.
  • Swat Valley: Roads open, waterfalls running, wildflowers beginning. One of the most scenic months.
  • Skardu flights resume: PIA and AirSial restart Skardu routes in March as weather permits.
  • Fairy Meadows: Snow usually clears enough for hikers by late April.

April–May — Hunza Cherry Blossoms

This is arguably the most beautiful month in all of Pakistan. Hunza Valley cherry blossoms typically peak in the first two weeks of April. It is visually extraordinary — entire valley floors covered in pink and white blossoms against snow-capped mountains.

  • Book accommodation 2–3 months in advance — Hunza fills completely during blossom season
  • Karimabad hotels are best positioned. Eagle's Nest Hotel has the most iconic view.
  • Beach season begins in Karachi in May — pleasant before the June heat

June–August — Northern Peak Season

This is the peak season for northern Pakistan. Naran-Kaghan is accessible from June. Hunza, Gilgit, and Skardu are all beautiful. The entire northern tourist infrastructure is operational.

  • June: Best month for Naran-Kaghan Valley and Fairy Meadows
  • July–August: Shandur Polo Festival (July) — world's highest polo ground
  • August: Independence Day (14 August) rush — roads and hotels extremely congested
  • Punjab and Sindh: Monsoon begins. Flash floods possible. Check weather before road trips.

September–October — Autumn Colors in Hunza

Many photographers consider October to be THE month to visit Pakistan. Hunza Valley's autumn foliage — gold, orange, red against the brown mountains and blue sky — is genuinely world-class. Less crowded than cherry blossom season but equally stunning.

  • Shandur Polo Festival (if not held in July): Spectacular if you can attend
  • Gilgit-Baltistan in October: Perfect weather, stunning colors, manageable crowds
  • Cholistan Desert: October-November is when desert camping becomes ideal

November–December — Southern Pakistan Winter

  • Thar Desert (Sindh): Beautiful winter camping. The desert is green after monsoon rains.
  • Karachi beach season: November to February is Karachi's outdoor season — French Beach, Hawkes Bay.
  • Lahore and Islamabad: Cool and pleasant for city tourism. No crowds.
  • North closes progressively: Skardu flights reduce from November. Hunza roads may close by December.
