How to Block Lost Phone IMEI Through PTA (2026 Guide)
Step-by-step guide to block a stolen phone's IMEI through PTA's DIRBS system in Pakistan. Includes FIR requirements, timeline, and how to unblock.
What Is IMEI Blocking?
Every phone has a unique 15-digit IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identity). Pakistan's PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) maintains DIRBS — the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System. Once your phone's IMEI is blocked through DIRBS, it cannot use any mobile network in Pakistan regardless of which SIM is inserted.
Step 1 — Find Your IMEI Number
- Dial *#06# on any phone to display the IMEI
- Check the original phone box — printed on the label
- Google account > Manage Devices > device info (for Android)
- iCloud.com > Find My > device info (for iPhone)
- If you registered the phone on PTA DIRBS already, log in to retrieve it
Step 2 — File an FIR
PTA requires an official FIR (First Information Report) to process a stolen phone block. Go to your nearest police station with your CNIC, IMEI number, phone model, and a description of the theft. Request an FIR copy — you'll need the FIR number for the PTA application.
Step 3 — Report on DIRBS
- 1Visit dirbs.pta.gov.pk
- 2Select 'Stolen Device Reporting'
- 3Enter your IMEI number, CNIC, FIR number, and date of theft
- 4Upload FIR copy (scanned or photo)
- 5Submit and note your complaint reference number
Step 4 — Timeline
- Submission confirmed: immediately
- IMEI blocked across all networks: within 48 hours
- Confirmation SMS sent to your other registered number
How to Unblock (If Phone Is Recovered)
- 1Visit dirbs.pta.gov.pk
- 2Select 'Unblock Request'
- 3Provide your IMEI and complaint reference number
- 4Unblocking processed within 24-48 hours
