How QR Luggage Tags Work — Complete Explanation

A detailed guide to how Nishaaan QR tags work — from ordering to scanning to anonymous contact. Everything you need to know.

QR (Quick Response) codes were invented in Japan in 1994 for automotive manufacturing, but today they're ubiquitous — on restaurant menus, payment apps, and now, on luggage tags and pet collars. Here's exactly how Nishaaan's QR tag system works from start to finish.

Part 1: The Owner's Journey

Step 1: Ordering Your Tags

Visit nishaaan.com and select the tag category that matches your asset (Vehicle, Pet, Luggage, or Keys). Choose between a digital QR code (instant delivery) or printed physical tag (shipped to you). Pay via JazzCash, EasyPaisa, or Raast. Our team verifies payment and activates your order.

Step 2: Claiming Your Code

Every Nishaaan tag has a unique 6-character code printed on it (e.g., ABC123). After receiving your tag, log into your Nishaaan account and click "Claim a Tag". Enter your code, select your category and sub-type, and proceed to configure.

Step 3: Configuring Your Tag

Add a name (e.g., "My Black Samsonite Suitcase"), a description, and your contact preferences. Choose your contact method: anonymous WhatsApp bridge, anonymous call bridge, or direct WhatsApp (where the finder sees your number only after submitting their own). You can update these settings anytime.

Part 2: The Finder's Journey

Step 1: Finding the Item and Scanning

The finder opens their phone's camera app and points it at the QR code. Any modern smartphone (iPhone or Android) will automatically detect the QR code and show a banner linking to the tag's page. No app download required.

Step 2: The Tag Page

The finder lands on a page showing the tag name (e.g., "Luggage — My Black Samsonite") and a brief description you've set. The page is clean, mobile-optimized, and in English. It asks the finder for their name and phone number before they can contact you.

Step 3: Anonymous Contact

Once the finder submits their details, they can tap "Send WhatsApp Message" — which sends a message to you through Nishaaan's Twilio bridge, without the finder ever seeing your real WhatsApp number. Or they can initiate an anonymous call bridged through our system.

Part 3: The Notification System

The moment a scan is registered, you receive an email notification containing: the finder's name and phone number, the GPS coordinates where they scanned the tag, and a timestamp. This information is also stored in your scan log on your dashboard.
