COMSATS Islamabad — Park Road Campus

Campus Overview

The main Islamabad campus is located on Park Road, Chak Shahzad, about 20 minutes from the Islamabad Expressway. The campus has expanded significantly over the past decade and now includes multiple academic blocks, a central library, hostels, a mosque, and sports facilities spread across a hilly terrain.

Library Policies

The COMSATS Islamabad library is located in the main academic block, 2nd floor. It has two reading halls, a reference section, and a computer lab. During semester, the library operates from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM (shorter hours during breaks).

• Bags must be left in the lockers at the library entrance. Lockers are key-based — you deposit your student card and receive a key.
• Laptops are allowed inside but must be carried by hand (not in a bag). This means your laptop is visible to everyone.
• The reading halls have open tables with no barriers. Don't leave your laptop unattended to take a phone call outside.
• Library books issued to you are your responsibility. Overdue or lost books incur fines (PKR 20/day) and must be replaced at your cost.
• The computer lab in the library has 40 terminals. USB drives left behind are collected by staff — check with the library desk if you've lost one.

Hostel Security — Islamabad

COMSATS Islamabad has separate boys' and girls' hostels on campus. The boys' hostel has four blocks, while the girls' hostel has two blocks with stricter access control.

Campus Layout

The Lahore campus is located on Defence Road, off Raiwind Road. It's a newer campus with modern infrastructure — three academic blocks, a dedicated IT building, a library, a cafeteria, and a sports ground. The campus is surrounded by commercial areas, which means external foot traffic near the gates is high.

IT Lab Rules

The Lahore campus has four IT labs across two buildings. These labs are used for programming courses, database practicals, and networking labs. The rules are strict:

• No bags allowed inside IT labs. Store them in the cubby shelves outside the lab door. Remove your phone, wallet, and keys first.
• Personal laptops are allowed for specific courses only, with instructor permission. Otherwise, use the lab terminals.
• USB drives and external hard drives must be scanned at the lab assistant's desk before use. This is a virus prevention policy, but it also means your drive is logged.
• Lab hours are fixed: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for regular use, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for project work (with instructor authorization).
• If you leave a USB drive or personal item in the lab, check with the lab assistant the same day. Items unclaimed for 3 days are sent to the Admin Office.

Cafeteria and Common Areas

The Lahore campus cafeteria is a large open-air space with covered seating. During lunch (12:30 PM - 2:00 PM), it serves 500+ students. This is the single highest-risk area for lost and forgotten items on the Lahore campus.

Keep your bag on the table or between your knees. Don't hang it on the back of a plastic chair — the hooks are loose and bags slide off into the crowd. If you leave the cafeteria and realize you forgot something, go back immediately. Cafeteria staff do not collect items — other students may pick them up (with good or bad intentions).

Mountain Campus Challenges

The Abbottabad campus is located on University Road, set against the scenic Sarban hills. The weather here presents unique challenges — heavy monsoon rains from July to September and cold winters with occasional snowfall. Your belongings need to be weatherproofed.

• Use a waterproof bag or rain cover for your laptop bag. Abbottabad rain is sudden and heavy — a 5-minute walk from the hostel to class can soak everything.
• The campus has steep walkways. Bags placed on slopes can slide or tip over. Use bags with stable bases or keep them on flat surfaces.
